About KIPP Academy Charlotte
Founded in 2007, KIPP Academy Charlotte is a free, non-profit, high-performing, college-preparatory public charter school providing an academically rigorous and joyous school experience to 6-8 Grade students in Charlotte.
At KIPP Academy Charlotte, we commit to developing the whole child through culturally responsive teaching that cultivates confidence and a positive self-identity. We believe that self-efficacy leads to creativity, risk-taking, and critical thinking. Students believe they can grow their character and intellect. These skills will provide our students the opportunity to make a profound impact in their community and the world at large.

Tyler Jones
Tyler Jones is a proud North Carolina native, born and raised in Rocky Mount. His passion for youth development and education was sparked early on while working with the Boys & Girls Club during high school—an experience that set the trajectory for his lifelong commitment to student success.
After graduating from North Carolina A&T State University in 2018, Tyler joined the Teach For America corps and began his career at KIPP Academy Charlotte (KAC) as a 6th-grade science teacher. His dedication to academic excellence and school culture quickly led to leadership roles within the KAC community:
2021: Promoted to Dean of Culture and Instruction
2022: Promoted to Assistant Principal
2025: Earned a Master’s Degree in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC), becoming a licensed North Carolina school administrator
2025: Selected for KIPP’s prestigious Principal in Residence program
Stepping into the role of Principal at KIPP Academy Charlotte fulfills a goal Tyler set at the very beginning of his educational journey. Driven by an unwavering belief in the potential of every student, he is dedicated to ensuring that the vision and mission of KIPP become a lived, everyday reality for every scholar who walks through the doors.
Our Vision
Highly literate and articulate students will identify a need and actively take part in their democracy to meet that need. Middle school students will apply their skills and character to model and make changes in their communities. We will produce the most well-rounded people in Charlotte.
EDUCATION

KIPP Forward
KIPP Forward counselors support students as they prepare for and select the right college and career based on their interests and passions. After high school, KIPP Forward advisors help alumni navigate the academic, social, and financial challenges they might encounter while in college or pursuing a career.

McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act
Families are the fastest-growing segment of the homeless population in the United States. This act contains a specific definition of homelessness that includes a broad array of inadequate living situations, including:
- Living with a friend, relative, or other people
- Hotel or motel
- Shelter or transitional housing
- Car, park, or other public places
- Campground, storage unit, abandoned building, or other inadequate homes
- Youth living on their own, runaway youth, or youth kicked out
The living situations above do not include all situations that may qualify.
